How to find and replace

Step 1: access find and replace

Once in Space Content Manager select the tab Find and replace:

Step 2: select pages to search

Option 1: entire space

This is the default and searches all pages in the space you are in.

Option 2: choose child pages

Search only child pages with an option to include the parent pages. Only pages with child pages will appear in the search as you type.

Option 3: select pages

Select specific pages to search.

About selecting pages to search

• only searches pages in the space you are in

  • to search in a different space open Space Content Manager in that space

• you must have permission to at least view the page

• child pages

  • only parent pages that have children can be searched

Step 3: what to replace

Title and body is the default. Option to restrict search to only title or only body.

Step 4: replace or change case

Most of the time the default Replace is desired. But there are also options to convert to upper case or lower case.

Step 5: find and replace

Find

Use as many terms as you wish.

Tip: use match case if possible to restrict the results.

Replace

Replace text is case sensitive.

Delete

To delete terms, enter them in the Find field. Then leave the Replace field blank. Terms to be deleted displays in the preview with a strikethrough.

Changing URLs

Ask a space admin if you need to change a URL. Only those with space admin access can use the change URLs feature (under space settings). See section below.

If you use the main find and replace to update a URL, and not space settings, it will only change the text of the URL. It does not change the underlying URL itself.

Example: if change ‘adidas’ to ‘nike’ the hyperlink displays as http://www.nike.com, but when a user clicks on it they are still directed to http://www.adidas.com.

Step 6: preview and confirm

Click the Find button to preview the changes.

The Find button will change to a spinning icon as the app searches the pages. If your space has a large number of pages please be patient.

Preview

The proposed change is highlighted in yellow. Deselect pages you do not want to change.

If the Replace field is left blank the terms are deleted. They are displayed with a strikethrough.

Click replace

When happy with the preview click Replace.

Confirmation

icon in front of the page title means it has successfully changed.

Find and replace URLs (space admins only)

Only those with space administrator access can use find and replace URLs.

What it does

Change URLs, both the display text and the underlying URL.

Note: if use the main part of the app it does not change the underlying URL, only the display text.

How to access more actions

Option 1: within the app

Click the ‘More actions’ button

Only those with space administrator access see this button.

Option 2: via Confluence administration

Go to space settings.

Under Integrations select Space Content Manager.

How to find and replace URLs

Enter what you want to change

Enter the terms to find and replace and click the button Find.

You can change a complete URL or only a part of a URL. In the example below, it is to change the French (fr) version of a site to the Canadian (ca) version.

Preview

Bulk change or choose per URL what action to take. By default no bulk action is selected.

Optional. Unselect URL occurrences that you want to ignore.

Optional. If you choose Display URL, manually edit the URL by clicking the pencil icon.

When you are happy with what you see click Replace.

Confirmation

The icon between the page title and link means it has successfully changed.
