What you can do with find and replace

Across spaces or per page

  • find text

  • replace text

  • delete text

  • convert to UPPER or lower case

  • replace URLs (space administrators)

How to find and replace (across spaces)

Click on the tab Find and replace.

Option 1: entire space

This is the default and searches all pages in the space you are in.

Option 2: choose child pages

Search only child pages with an option to include the parent pages. Only pages with child pages will appear in the search as you type.

Select specific pages to search.

About selecting pages to search

  • only searches pages in the space you are in

    • to search in a different space open Space Content Manager in that space

  • you must have permission to at least view the page

  • child pages

    • only parent pages that have children can be searched

Choose what to replace

Title and body is the default. Option to restrict search to only title or only body.

Most of the time the default Replace is desired. But there are also options to convert to upper case or lower case.

Find

Use as many terms as you wish.

Supports:

  • most special characters like &, %, $, #

  • languages not using the Latin alphabet

    • Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Greek, Hindi and more

Tip: use match case if possible to restrict the results.

Replace text is case sensitive.

Delete

To delete terms, enter them in the Find field. Then leave the Replace field blank. Terms to be deleted displays in the preview with a strikethrough.

Preview

Click the Find button to preview the changes.

The Find button will change to a spinning icon as the app searches the pages. If your space has a large number of pages please be patient.

The proposed change is highlighted in yellow. Deselect pages you do not want to change.

If the Replace field is left blank the terms are deleted. They are displayed with a strikethrough.

Confirm

When you are happy with what you see in the preview click Replace.

Changing text of link doesn’t change the underlying URL (i.e. https//example.com)

Find and replace change the display text of the URL. It does not change the underlying URL. This is a Confluence limitation and also applies to the text of emails and phone numbers.

We have a solution

Edit underlying URLs under ‘Link manager’ tab. Or if you are a space administrator go to Space Setting to edit URLs in bulk (learn more below).

How to find and replace (page level)

Open the app on any page under More actions.

Finding and replacing on the page level is explained below, but note that it works similar to the space level (see above).

Confirm

When happy with the preview click Replace.

Click on the blue hyperlinked text to reload the page or click reload in your browser.

Bulk find and replace URLs (space admins only)

Space administrators can also bulk change the underlying URLs.

When using Space Content Manager under ‘Apps’ select the tab 'Space admin features' select the spaces where you want to find the links.

Space Apps access

If you are using the app under ‘Space apps’ you need to click the ‘More actions’ button at the bottom. It will take you to space settings. Only administrators see this button as it is an admin only feature.

Bulk change URLs

Enter both the terms to ‘Find in URLs’ and to ‘Replace with’. If replace is left blank the find term will be removed from the URL.

Click 'Find' to preview changes.

You have the option to edit the display text per URL.

When you are happy with what you see in the preview click ‘Replace’.

The check mark icon under status means it has successfully updated.

Why does it still say ‘LinkedIn’ and not reddit? The underlying URL was changed. The display text is edited separately per link.
