How to use Link Manager for Confluence

Bulk change links from

  • Display URL to Display inline

  • Display inline to Display URL

Across multiple pages across multiple spaces or on a single page.

Note

Display URL shows the full URL. Example: https://www.atlassian.com/.

Display inline, shows the meta title of the link. Example:

Selecting pages to search

  • must have permission to at least view the page

  • search by child pages

    • only parent pages with children show as search options

In the left side menu under ‘Apps’ select Link Manager.

You can also use the app under ‘Space apps’.

Note: this only allows you to edit links in the space you are currently in.

Select spaces

Select one or more spaces.

Note: if you are using Link Manager under ‘Space apps’ you will not see ‘Select spaces’. It restricts you to the space you are in.

Select pages

The default page selection is all pages in all the spaces you have selected.

When you select child pages you have the option to include parent pages.

Preview

After selecting pages and clicking preview you see the links that you can edit.

  • expand to see all URLs

  • deselect URLs you do not want to edit

  • to ignore an entire page deselect the page

Edit base URL and display text

Click the edit icon to update an individual URL. The base URL and the display text are edited separately.

Change from showing full URL <--> display inline

When you change the ‘Link display’ from URL to Inline or Inline to URL the preview will update.

In the example above the Link display was changed from URL to Inline. This is why you no longer see the text explaining the link and only the base URL.

Confirm changes

After all edits have been made click the ‘Submit’ button in the bottom right.

Confirmation

The check mark icon shows next to URLs that have been updated. Those with no status have not changed.

Bulk replace URLs (space admins only)

Find bulk replacing URLs under the tab 'Space admin features'.

If you are using the app under ‘Space apps’ you need to click the ‘More actions’ button at the bottom. It will take you to space settings.

Enter the terms to find and replace. Click the button 'Find' to preview changes.

Select the edit icon to manually edit the Display text (only applicable of the Link display is URL)

When you are happy with what you see in the preview click ‘Replace’.

The check mark icon under status means it has successfully updated.

How to use Link Manager on a single page

While working on a page select ‘More actions’ (…) in the top right to open a pull down menu. Then scroll down to ‘Apps’ and choose 'Link Manager’.

Editing links on the page level is almost identical to doing so at the space level. See above for editing details.

Note: only administrators can see the ‘App settings’ and ‘More actions’ buttons
